Finally! High quality voice and broadband internet access comes in a small portable package. Do you need voice, G-3 fax, and broadband internet access via satellite? The EXPLORER^TM 500 by Thrane & Thrane is a small portable satellite terminal that provides the same communications services you have in your home or office. It weighs only 2.9 pounds and is about half the size of a typical notebook computer. Weatherproofing technology makes the EXPLORER^TM 500 resistant to water and dust. In addition to a conventional RJ-11 analog phone port, the EXPLORER^TM 500 also supports an optional cordless BlueTooth voice handset that works at distances up to 100 meters from the terminal. Connect your computer via Ethernet LAN, USB, or wirelessly via Bluetooth.

Options include: cordless Bluetooth voice handset, corded voice handset, car charger, watertight impact case, hardware-based VPN, external battery pack, solar charging system, USB-to-Bluetooth adapter (for Windows), and SkyFile email/fax/video software.

Other Thrane & Thrane BGAN Terminals: The EXPLORER^TM 500 is only the first in an entire family of BGAN products, all expected to share the same intelligent user interface. The EXPLORER^TM 500 is the best suited terminal in the Thrane & Thrane family for general applications because of its combination of relatively high data rates but fairly small size. Other models are coming soon, including the EXPLORER^TM 700 which will be a Class I BGAN terminal capable of 256 kbps streaming. A special unitized cable supporting voice, power, and data will connect the EXPLORER^TM 700 antenna unit with its transceiver at distances up to 80 meters (expected). The EXPLORER^TM 700 will support 80211.a, 80211.b and 80211.g so that it can be used even for highly secure WiFi VPN communications. The EXPLORER^TM 527 will provide vehicular BGAN services (expected to be available to government users only). An 18 inch diameter 7 inch high dome is not expected to attract as much attention as the large GAN vehicular satellite antennas. Performance degrades some while the vehicle is in motion. Some coverage restrictions apply. The last member of the family is the EXPLORER^TM 500 which will be a class III BGAN terminal.

Optional Voice Communications Accessories: The EXPLORER^TM 500 has an RJ-11 port that can be used for analog phones, modems, and G-3 fax equipment. A BlueTooth wireless voice handset is also available for the EXPLORER^TM 500 with a maximum range of 100 meters. Voice-over-IP (VoIP) applications are supported by BGAN. The EXPLORER^TM 500 supports a VoIP encrypted 32 kbps streaming IP mode which has small latency and is suitable for voice communication (and secure communication).
